Ghostly stories
In 1862 various methods were used to obtain bodies for premedical studies. Thomas Cook was hanged at the ( old) Woodstock Courthouse he would make an ideal candidate for premedical studies. In 1892, there was a Woodstock Medical Clinic situated at the corner of Finkle and Dundas Street, which is now the Royal Bank. Thomas Cook’s friends were given the body for burial after the hanging .They could strike up a good deal if they handed the body over to the medical clinic this medical clinic was a necessary part of the Dr.’s education. Cook’s body was deposited in dissecting room at the clinic. Thomas Cook’s body never received proper burial. Nor did he give consent to allow his body to be used for science .
In 1903 a crew was digging up the area where the old medical clinic site once stood. They found a skeleton. Their grisly discovery turned out to be Thomas Cook. The bones were removed and buried elsewhere in an unmarked grave.
