Jones Brothers Cigars Woodstock Ontario
In the mid-1800s Woodstock had its own cigar house made hand cigars. There was many brands that they made and were quite famous in the different articles in the Canadian Museum of history of cigars. The other thing that made cigars very appealing was the fancy boxes that they were put in. Jones Brothers of Woodstock was located at 491 Dundas Street in 1918 this is now a location of Roberts Ladies Wear. (From the Woodstock directory of 1918) |
The Jones Brothers of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, came up with a clever variant. Instead of an inexpensive wooden peg, they used an even cheaper strip of paper fed through the split end of their Split End Cigar, which they were able to patent in 1893. “None genuine without paper on end” warned the label. The brand was manufactured for a year or two, but how effective the paper tab is unknown.
